LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY

Laparoscopic surgery is the less invasive compared to open surgery and  requires specialized instruments and skills.

Laparoscopic surgery, also referred to as key hole surgery,  is done by making several small incisions/cuts through the skin, each about 5mm to 12mm, to access the abdomen or pelvis. Special instruments and a camera are then inserted through these incisions and operations can be preformed whilst watching on a monitor.

Benefits of Laparoscopic vs Open surgery are smaller scars, less pain during recovery, less bleeding, a shorter hospital stay, a faster recovery period (back to normal activities sooner) and you may have less internal scarring.

Common Laparoscopic cases performed by Dr Loots are:

  • Appendectomy (removal of the appendix)

  • Hernia repair (inguinal, incisional, ventral and umbilical)

  • Resection of bowel (small and large intestine)

  • Cholecystectomy (Removal of the gallbladder)

  • Drainage of intra-abdominal and pelvic abscesses
